This vintage photograph from the files of the National Archives shows Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse when it was still in operation. Note the front stairway which is no longer there. With its current condition it would be impossible to sand on the lantern room catwalk as the keeper did in this photograph. We now consider this lighthouse as the Most Endangered lighthouse in America. Will you help save it? Back to the edition of: January 2000
