It's always neat to see two lighthouses in one photograph. Connecticut's Lynde Point Lighthouse, in the distance, was built in 1838-39. The lighthouse is also known as the Saybrook Inner Lighthouse. In 1966 the 1858 keeper's house was demolished when a new home was built. The other beacon is the 1886 Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse that appears on one of Connecticut's automobile license plates. Recently, when the government offered the historic lighthouse up for adoption the local community decided they didn't want it. Neither lighthouse is open to the public.
