One of the few known photographs of Capt. Alden H. Jordan, who was the lighthouse keeper at Bear Island Lighthouse from 1883 to 1899. He had previously been the lighthouse keeper at Baker Island Lighthouse from 1867 to 1883. On a visit to the home of George and Charlotte Pepper, Charlotte took this photo of him, and she wrote with the photo, “He [Alden F. Jordan] evidently felt a bit foolish at being photographed. Alden Hale Jordan died in 1907 and was buried in the Seal Harbor Cemetery in Seal Harbor, Maine. (Photograph courtesy Northeast Harbor Library.) Back to the edition of: Sep/Oct 2016
