Photo Caption:

The Belle Isle Lighthouse as it appeared on January 4, 1937 from a photo taken by the Detroit News. In this image the curtains or drapes are drawn in the lantern to protect the Fresnel lens from the harmful rays of the sun. This indicates that the Fresnel lens was still in the tower.
