This 1871 photo by famous photographer Eadweard Muybridge shows Cape Blanco Lighthouse within a year of its construction. Many trees had to be cleared from the cape and are shown still lying about awaiting removal. Cape Blanco Lighthouse had a first order Fresnel lens, fixed white light signature, with a focal plane of 250 feet that could be seen 23 miles out to sea. (Courtesy Cape Blanco Heritage Society.)
