First stop on the tour is Pilot Island Lighthouse. Built in 1858, it was said to have witnessed more shipwrecks than any other lighthouse on the Great Lakes. While still used as an active aid to navigation with a modern optic, access to landing on the island by visitors is prohibited. However, good views from all sides can be had by taking one of the many lighthouse cruises from Gills Rock. Back to the edition of: Mar/Apr 2017
