The tragic tale of the attempted rescue of the Mermaid is showcased in the exhibit of the decommissioned Motor Lifeboat CG-36474. The exhibit is interactive with phones, video commentary, and lift-board scenarios presenting decisions you must make as part of the “Coxswain’s Dilemma.” The historical resolutions are given under the flip lids so you can see what the real coxswains chose to do in those exact situations. Note the fog bell at the front of the lifeboat in this photo. It comes from the Desdemona Sands Lighthouse which was demolished in the early 1940s. Back to the edition of: May/Jun 2017
