Lighthouse keeper Clarence Walter “Harry” Salter started out his lighthouse career in 1894 at the Old Plantation Flats Lighthouse shown here. He served there until 1903 and again from 1908 to 1912. Built in 1886, the Old Plantation Flats Lighthouse stood at the entrance to Old Plantation Creek in Cape Charles, Virginia. It was deactivated in 1962 and demolished shortly thereafter. In the spring of 2004, the Bay Creek Resort & Club in Cape Charles, Virginia built an exact replica of Old Plantation Flats Lighthouse in a man-made lake along the shores of Chesapeake Bay, just two miles from the original station.
