Photo Caption:
Vintage image of Owls Head Lighthouse in Owls Head, Maine where Allen Carter Holt was the lighthouse keeper from 1920 to 1928. Shortly after his arrival, the U.S. Lighthouse Service decided that the enclosed walkway from the keeper’s house to the tower should be removed. As well as being too expensive to maintain, it was also deemed to be a fire hazard. (Lighthouse Digest archives.) Back to the edition of: Jul/Aug 2019
