Theodore “Teddy Lighthouse” Beuthe is shown in the cabin of the tug, John C., that assisted in the final destruction of the Bergen Point Lighthouse in 1951. Captain Beuthe worked at the time for the Arundel Corporation who had the contract to widen the channel and remove the lighthouse. His tending tug towed in the scow and drill boat for the demolition and he was given the “honor” to detonate the charges. (Courtesy Robert H. Beuthe Collection)
