The caption for this photo when originally published in 1973 was: “Magnificent, simply magnificent,” New York executive George Hupman said Thursday after visiting his Tillamook Lighthouse. Two others who flew in by helicopter through the fog to the lighthouse described it as a “real dilapidated mess.” Hupman owned the lighthouse for five years before selling it to Max Shillock in 1978.
