Lucy Glidden Burke Steffen was born on January 28, 1900 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire when her father was serving as head keeper at the Isles of Shoals Lighthouse. She was raised at the light until she turned 12 when the family was then transferred to Cape Neddick (Nubble) Light in Maine. She is shown at the table with her son-in-law Joseph Finley in the 1940s.
