Photo Caption:

The 1873 Craighill Channel Front Range Lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay in Baltimore Harbor, Maryland where Henry C. Sterling was stationed from September of 1900 to April of 1901. It is the second oldest cast iron “spark plug” style lighthouse in the United States after the Duxbury Pier Lighthouse in Massachusetts. In 2006, the government awarded the lighthouse to a nonprofit, but when the nonprofit either went out of business, or did not work to restore the structure, the government took back the lighthouse. In 2017, the federal government sold the lighthouse into private ownership for $96,000. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
