Photo Caption:

Veteran lighthouse keeper Alfred G. Eisener was the first keeper at Lovells Island Lighthouse. He served there from 1903 to 1919. He was born on July 30, 1846 in Beaver Harbor, Nova Scotia, Canada and moved to the United States with his parents in September of 1851. He became a U.S. citizen in 1868 and on December 3, 1870, he married Margaret (Mary) Parker. He died at the age of 88 in May of 1935 and was buried in the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Hopefully, the day will come when someone will place a U.S. Lighthouse Service Memorial Marker at his gravesite. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
