Amanda Varner Coleman was born May 26, 1892 in Bath and married Eugene Leslie Coleman on June 18, 1919. Together, they were stationed at five lighthouses: Fort Popham Lighthouse, ME (1923); Boon Island Light, ME (1923-1930); Cape Neddick (Nubble) Lighthouse, ME (1930-1942); Nauset Lighthouse, MA (1942-1950); and Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, ME (1950-1955). With living 32 years together at isolated lighthouses, their bond was extremely strong. It is little wonder that they died within only four weeks of each other: Amanda, on January 17, 1966, and Eugene, on February 12, 1966. (Courtesy Don and Deb Malonson, Lighthouse Digest archives)
