Eugene Leslie Coleman, is shown on the far left in uniform with keeper Charles Knight standing next to him in civilian clothes. Eugene was born January 21, 1888. After working for the Torrey Roller Bushing Works during World War I, he entered the U.S. Lighthouse Service at Fort Popham Lighthouse on September 30, 1923. He served for the next 32 years at four more lighthouses, finally retiring in 1955 from the U.S. Coast Guard as a civilian lighthouse keeper. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
