Robert D. Israel (1826-1907), who served at California’s Old Point Loma Lighthouse from 1871 to 1891, was fired in 1892, shortly after he was transferred to the New Point Loma Lighthouse, apparently for complaining about shoddy workmanship during construction at the new lighthouse.
