A new roof on the Heron Neck lighthouse keeper’s house has been installed to replace the one destroyed in a fire and the new under-siding is shown being installed. Prior to this, most of the roof had been destroyed and the keeper’s house remained open and exposed to the elements for three years while Coast Guard officials created numerous delays in allowing the house to be restored with private funds. This caused a national uproar that was covered by the national TV news. The resulting chain of events changed the course of the preservation of lighthouses for the entire nation.
