Phyllis Mills Wyeth stands in the entrance to the fog bell tower at Tenants Harbor Light. Jamie and Phyllis were married in 1968. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2019. About this 1994 painting entitled, Southern Light, Jamie wrote, “My wife, Phyllis, was recovering from major surgery and she came directly to the island following her release from the hospital. She had about her that aura of one who has been through something terrible and has survived: fragile, yet triumphant. The sea through the window was in a sense the storm that she had passed through. I worked like hell to capture that aura in the picture. I largely failed, but perhaps a bit of it is in there.” (©Jamie Wyeth/ARS)
