The first and maybe the only wedding performed at Heron Neck Lighthouse was officiated by Rev. P.J. Clifford in 1930 when he married Elizabeth Smith to lighthouse keeper Clinton “Buster” Dalzell, shown here. Dalzell later went on to serve at Matinicus Rock Lighthouse, Seguin Island Lighthouse, Boon Island Lighthouse and finally at Egg Rock Lighthouse, all of which are in Maine. Dalzell met a mysterious death at Egg Rock Lighthouse in 1935. That story was told in the June 2004 edition of Lighthouse Digest and can also be found in the book, Lighthouses of Bar Harbor and the Acadia Region. (Lighthouse Digest archives photo.)
