Peter Ralston, vice president of the Island Institute, was the driving force behind saving Heron Neck Lighthouse, which, under his leadership, led to the development of the Maine Lights Program. He was also one of the driving forces behind the establishment in 2005 of the Gateway Center in Rockland, Maine, which became the home to the new Maine Lighthouse Museum, founded by the late Ken Black.
