Head lighthouse keeper Wilhelm Baumgartner is shown here with his wife Lena and a friend in front of the Point Cabrillo’s keeper’s house with a 1920s automobile. Keeper Baumgartner married Lena Seaman on July 17, 1911 and the couple lived at the light station until 1923 when he was taken ill and transported to the Marine Hospital, where he died of pneumonia. At the time of their wedding, a local newspaper story stated Wilhelm Baumgartner is a “whole-souled genial fellow and his bride is a most worthy young lady.” Lena was born on July 19, 1885 and lived for many years after Wilhelm’s death, dying on October 2, 1974. Both are buried at the San Francisco National Cemetery in the Presidio in San Francisco, California.
