In early 1937, LeRoy White had tried to apply for a permanent appointment as an assistant lighthouse keeper in the 18th district, but at that time, according to this return card by mail, there were no examinations offered to begin the process. If there had been one, perhaps LeRoy would have spent the rest of his working career as a lighthouse keeper, following in his father’s footsteps.
