Photo Caption:

This rare photograph of the interior of Robbins Reef Lighthouse was taken in the 1950s by the New York World Telegram & Sun newspaper, which has since gone out of business. This image shows three Coast Guard keepers in the kitchen identified l-r; Ralph Rexinger, Joaquin H. Brito and Olaf Anderson. Brito was the Coast Guard keeper who went to Atlantic City in 1954 and ceremoniously lit the two replicas of the Absecon Lighthouse at the entrance to the city for the Diamond Jubilee of Light honoring the 75th anniversary of Thomas Edison inventing the incandescent light bulb. (Photograph courtesy of the Library of Congress. However, the Library of Congress has spelled the last name of Joaquin H. Brito as Brits.)
