California’s first Fort Point Lighthouse, a twin to that state’s first Alcatraz Lighthouse, was completed in 1853. However, it only stood for three months. Because the government decided it wanted to build a fort at the site, the almost brand-new lighthouse was demolished three months after it was completed, making it the first lighthouse in California to meet its demise.
