Orrin Lindsey Milan officially became an assistant keeper to his father, Thomas, while yet a teenager in 1892. After five years in that role, he transferred to Burnt Coat Harbor Lighthouse on Swan’s Island, 20 miles toward the mainland. It was said that he and his father were still able to communicate with each other by light signal so he could go to the Rock in case of emergency.
