For many years, the ruined base of the north structure of the Chatham towers remained, teetering on the edge of the bluff, and it became quite a tourist attraction. The sign on the fence, placed in 1921, read: “Site of the old Chatham Lights. Forty years ago, these light houses were distant, about 400 feet from the shore. The intervening land has been washed away by the ocean.” The remains of this tower toppled over the cliff sometime in the early 1940s.
