The grave monument of Captain Josiah Hardy at the Union Cemetery in Chatham, Massachusetts. The inscription on the monument says, “Nor Pain Nor Grief Nor Anxious Fear, Invade Thy Bounds Nor Mortal Woes, Can Reach the Peaceful Sleeper Here, While Angels Watch The Soft Repose.” Hopefully the day will come when a U.S. Lighthouse Service Memorial Marker will be placed at his gravesite. (Various stories about Captain Josiah Hardy referred to him as a Junior, or the 2nd (II), however, he was actually Josiah Hardy III.)
