In the early 1900s, veteran lighthouse keeper George L. Lyon invented and built this elaborate boat-docking system at Massachusetts’s Egg Rock Lighthouse. Using a powerful hand winch, the docking system hoisted the station’s dory out of the water onto a deck and then hoisted the dory into the boathouse.
