Photo Caption:

Delaware’s Christiana Lighthouse had a lovely, almost residential, appearance in its heyday. The lantern room housed a 4th order fixed white light. In its early days, the lantern room was painted red; however in1901 it was painted black. You will notice in this image that the curtains were drawn to protect the lens from the harmful rays of the sun. Sadly, the lighthouse no longer stands. (1897 photograph, Robert J. Lewis Collection, Lighthouse Digest archives.)
