The first Seneca Lake Lighthouse sat at the end of a long wooden pier. Although primitive looking by modern standards, it had a revolving light, which, upon close examination, can be seen in the lantern room. The Seneca Lake steamer, Schulyer, shown by the lighthouse in this old image, was one of the excursion boats that used to traverse the waters of Seneca Lake. It was originally built in 1863 in Geneva, NY as the W. W. Langdon. It was rebuilt in 1871 as the Schuyler. By 1893, the once proud vessel was beyond being saved and was condemned.
