Originally the lighthouse had a four man crew of keepers who had four weeks on and then two weeks off the rock. Now, only occasional visits are made to the lighthouse for minor routine maintenance. Although the Fastnet Lighthouse keepers are no longer on duty to witness the passing of ships, many people do see the lighthouse which is the turning point for the 615 mile Rolex Fastnet Yacht Race that is held every other year.
