Launch of an Air Force Matador missile dated July 18, 1951.The Matador was the first operational surface-to-surface cruise missile built by the United States. The Matador was just over 39 feet long, had a wingspan of just less than 29 feet, and had an operational range of about 700 miles. Improvements to the Matador produced the Mace missile which was also tested at the Cape. A color post card of this image can occasionally be found for sale on Ebay.
