This 1957 aerial view of Cape Florida Lighthouse was taken by Herbert Wilburn, a staff photographer for National Geographic. Close examination of the photo shows that the gate on the fence around the lighthouse was open and the ladder appears to be nearly fully in place from the upper window to the base of the tower.
