Shown here is Alpena Lighthouse keeper George Herman August Burzlaff, who joined the U.S. Lighthouse Service in June of 1907 and served as an assistant keeper at Raspberry Island Lighthouse, Point Iroquois Lighthouse, Round Island Lighthouse, Big Bay Lighthouse, Tawas Point Lighthouse, and Grassy Island North Channel Lighthouse, before becoming the principle keeper at Alpena in January of 1920. He went on to serve as the keeper of the Alpena Lighthouse for an amazing 25 years, retiring on January 25, 1946. However, he was not the longest serving keeper. John C. Wallace was the keeper for 31 years, from July 1, 1889 to June 7, 1920.
