Civil War veteran John Summer Poor married Sara Vincent in New Hampshire on September 3, 1864. Suffering from medical problems as a result of the war, he moved his wife and three children, the youngest being three months old, to Albion, Nebraska to take up farming. Two more children were born to the couple in Nebraska, the youngest being Georgia Kate, who was known her entire life as Katie, and would grow up to marry lighthouse keeper Ray Edgar Dunson.
