This vintage post card of Squirrel Point Lighthouse, published by Owen Art-Color of Georgetown, Maine, shows that fog horns were installed in a fenced-in area attached to the oil house in the far right of the image. The fog horns replaced the fog bell that was removed from the lighthouse sometime after that. Bob Trapani, Jr. of the American Lighthouse Foundation said that the fog horns in this image appear to be of the Leslie Supertyfon type, which was often used by the Coast Guard as a replacement for the old Daboll Trumpets. Later, these fog horns were replaced and a modern fog horn was placed on the upper deck of the lighthouse tower, which has since been removed. We wonder what happened to the fog bell after it was removed. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
