Photo Caption:

This historic image shows the fog bell when it was in use at the Perkins Island Lighthouse near the mouth of the Kennebec River in Maine. The pyramid style fog bell tower was built in 1902. In 2000, when the fog bell tower was in nearly lost from decay, it was restored by volunteers of the Maine Island Trail Association through grants administered by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. The boat house shown in this image no longer stands. (Lighthouse Digest archives, Judi Kearney collection.)
