One of the engraved granite blocks of the original foundation of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. This one is engraved with the names of Tilman F. Smith, John E. Whitehurst, George A Bliven, and Augustus C. Thompson. The main granite block is engraved with these words, “This exhibit acknowledges the service and dedication of those who served as Principle and Assistant Keepers at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse from 1803 – 1939. Sadly, as of this writing most of the stones were nearly covered by sand.
