A helicopter from Salem Air Station lands at Boon Island Light in 1961 to pick up the keepers for their one week of liberty. They were required to stay on the island for three weeks at a time with one week off. It might have been this helicopter that rescued the last keepers from the island when they took refuge in the tower after a storm destroyed the keepers house and left the island under two feet of water.
