The former Medway Head Lighthouse, which was rescued by Boston resident Alden Wambolt and his wife, was opened up for a tour to the conference attendees. Although the station no longer has its original lantern room, the Wambolts built a tower of their own in its place. For regular readers of Lighthouse Digest you may remember the story we did on the “Wambolt’s Real Lighthouse” a number of years ago. Mr. Wambolt made a special trip to Nova Scotia to open the lighthouse for the tour. The lighthouse is decorated with period furniture to show what a 1920’s lighthouse would look like, including the original wood stove. The only thing modern was the lighthouse shower curtain and, of course, copies of Lighthouse Digest which were in nearly every room. As Alden Wamboldt gave us a guided tour of the house you could sense the pride and excitement Alden had in this historic building and how proud he was to have played a role in saving this beautiful slice of Canadian history.
