Two of the keepers of the Port San Luis Obispo Lighthouse lived in this duplex and the third lived in the house that is attached to the light tower. In 1961, rather than maintain this building or restore it, the architecturally beautiful home that matched the lighthouse structure and home was demolished by the Coast Guard. They replaced it with a modern and plain one-story duplex. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
