If you look closely you will see the letters U.S.L.H.E. under the lighthouse on the hat being worn by Joseph Taylor Yates (1875-1943). Mr. Yates was a government lighthouse employee for an amazing 42 years and for 26 years he was the District Superintendent out of Staten Island. (Lighthouse Digest archives, Ted Sadler collection.)
