During slow times, daring and adventure still drew the keepers. This interesting photo shows one of the keepers of New York’s Old Orchard Shoal Light sitting atop a spar buoy while waving his Lighthouse Service hat. Notes on the back of the photo indicate that many tries were needed before he could establish his perch atop the buoy. Back to the edition of: May/Jun 2015
