The second Thimble Shoals Lighthouse that once housed the Fresnel lens that Max Hansmann lighted up in Washington, D.C. for the inauguration of President Ulysses S. Grant. A couple of days after Christmas, on December 27, 1909 a fire destroyed the lighthouse. It was later replaced by a caisson type structure. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
