Photo Caption:

Michigan’s Stannard Rock Lighthouse where Louis Wilks served as the lighthouse keeper for an amazing 20 years. Note that the station’s lighthouse boat has been hoisted up and is resting on the station’s deck. Also the tower’s shades or curtains were drawn to protect the Fresnel lens from the ultra violet rays of the sun. Recently, under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act, ownership of the lighthouse was transferred to the Superior Watershed Partnership in Marquette, Michigan. (National Archives photo.)
