Photo Caption:

Winter Harbor Light Station circa 1908. Note the caption “Mark Island Light Station”. Because Winter Harbor Light was located on Mark Island (in Frenchman’s Bay), it was sometimes erroneously called Mark Island Light. The actual Mark Island Light in Maine was located in Deer Island Thorofare—a narrow passage south of Stonington in East Penobscot Bay.
