Left: The fog bell at Stony Point originally hung from the light tower. But apparently it was too far from the water to be heard effectively, and a bell tower was built in 1890 at the river’s edge. Later a beacon was installed atop the structure. The location of the bell tower created additional work for Nancy Rose and subsequent keepers. It no longer stands.
