Right: George William Rose served at Wind Point Lighthouse as the 1st assistant lighthouse keeper from November 28, 1887 to April 1, 1891. For a short time he served under his step-father John Victor Sandell who was the head keeper at Wind Point Lighthouse. George’s brother, Lewis, also served as an assistant keeper at Wind Point Lighthouse. George Rose was then transferred to Grosse Point Lighthouse in Illinois where he served as the 1st assistant keeper until March 22, 1895. He then served at the Chicago Harbor and Breakwater Light Station as 3rd assistant keeper, 2nd assistant keeper, and 1st assistant keeper from 1895 until May 24, 1906 when he resigned after being disappointed that he did not get promoted to head keeper.
