Max Wilhelm Winters with his two half sisters, Yolunda and Viola on Beaver Island. He emigrated from Crimmitschau, Germany at the age of 14. He traveled to the United States alone and somehow made his way to Beaver Island, Michigan. He left his mother and sister Olga behind in Germany. Max lived at the Beaver Island Harbor Lighthouse with his father Ernst who was the keeper, stepmother Elizabeth and his two half sisters, Yolunda and Viola until approximately 1906.
